The Bull see Red as Hope Inn
hang on for a point

16/10/05     Hope Inn    1    Vs    Bull Wanderers  1
In a game where the visitors received 5 bookings and 1 sending off (and that was with a lenient referee), tells it own story , but the Hope really should have taken advantage against a side that played most of the game with 10 men.

Against a ‘raging’ Bull side the Hope Inn found it difficult to get into their passing game.  The Hope Inn defence was constantly under pressure as the midfield and forwards were unable to keep hold of the ball. Despite this the Hope Inn restricted the visitors to a only a few chances, again Oakley and co at the back looked impressive.

As the first half wore on the Hope kept looking for the high long ball, which was easily dealt with by the tall Bull defence.  The Bull players over enthusiastic challenges and colourful language was beginning to result in a number of bookings from the referee.  Despite this they didn’t learn and continued to berate the official on nearly every decision, it came as little surprise when they eventually had a player sent from the field just before half time for swearing at the referee.

After half time the Hope looked to build on their numerical advantage, and pressed for a goal.  Steve Smith was returned to his favorite forward position, with his younger brother Simon replacing him in central defence alongside Ben Leberl.  However as the Hope threw men forward, it was the 10 men Bull side that took the lead after a quick counter attack.

After the goal the Hope upped their efforts in search of an equaliser.  Their deserved goal came from a Jae Donnelly long throw, which has neatly tucked away by Steve Smith.  The home side continued to push forward in hope of a late winner but were denied by a stubborn Bull team.

Overall not a great performance, with perhaps the exception of their new young signing Matt Evans up front who impressed on his debut, however the Hope will be satisfied with a point and pleased to come away with no major injuries.

Man of the Match: Ben Leberl
