Hope continued their upturn in recent form with a fine victory at the Alexander Field on Sunday against a Tilmanstone team who had their goalkeeper to thank for in the end for keeping the score relatively
respectable.
Buoyed by last weeks impressive away victory at Jacetts Hope attacked from the outset and were given an admittedly dubious penalty early on when Tom Dodd’s shot struck a nearby opponents hand. John Muir was unmoved by the controversy however, and despatched his penalty with consummate ease past the despairing dive of the impressive Tilmanstone custodian. Hope continued to pile on the pressure and Steve Miller and Steve Smith were unlucky not to increase Hope’s lead. With the impressive new centre midfield partnership of Jason Oliver and Jason Donnelly continuing to dominate it was only a matter of time before Hope increased their advantage, which they achieved just before the break through Steve Smith’s fine finish.
The second half was a story of missed chances for Hope. Dave Bladon was denied a chance to score the third after being pulled down when through on goal-the referee possibly deciding to even up his earlier error by denying Hope a second penalty. It was a game n which Hope never looked like they were going to lose and provided a confidence giving boost before next weeks trick away fixture at leaders Eastry.
